Blooming Instagram couple takes on fitness together

Living in small town Stony Plain, Alberta, Chloe Currie and Kyle Winnicky are always alongside each other supporting one another in their individual, amateur fitness journeys. For the past year, Currie and Winnicky have dedicated themselves to proper fitness at the local gym, Chop Shop Physiques.

It all started when Currie moved out of her hometown in Red Deer just over two years ago. She discovered the gym in Stony Plain blantlanly out of boredom. With no friends or hobbies to attach herself to, she dedicated her time to fitness. She met Winnicky months later and has leaned on him as her main support.

“I want to show him that I am improving and I can lift heavier weights… I want to wake up and see a muscle that I didn’t see the day before,” Currie said.

Winnicky began his fitness journey while he was playing recreational hockey. As a member of the offense, he wanted to be bigger and stronger than his competitors. At some point, his pursuit for fitness outweighed his goal to become a professional hockey player.

Even though Currie gets tons of positive commentary from people in the fitness industry and from friends and family, she did receive some negative comments regarding a single post Currie uploaded onto Instagram captioning, “Trying to get this waist smaller than those biceps.”

“You’re trying to express something and people take it the wrong way. It gets lost in translation,” Winnicky said.

Despite the minor comments both of them receive on their accounts, the only opinions they rely on are each others which results in a “healthy competition.”

“I don’t need to find motivation because I have him,” Currie says looking to her fiance.

Currie has recently taken more of an advanced step to conquering her fitness by hiring a nutrition coach who gives her recipes that correspond to her desired weight goal. While she takes on this challenge, Winnicky will participate so they can do this together to prepare for their wedding coming up next year.

“Once you realize you can’t make it to the NHL, you realize, hey at least I got something to do,” Winnicky said.

Together, they have created online Instagram content that some of their followers refer to as #couplegoals. Posts of them at the gym, at home with their dog Zoey, with Currie’s nephew Benson or just out and about grocery shopping are just some of the photographs you’ll see while scrolling Currie’s Instagram feed.

Since getting engaged in June 2017, the couple have increased their social media content on Instagram to be more fitness-based.

“I started posting pictures of us flexing and stuff, and people gravitate towards that and I like people seeing our progress.”
